Overview
Sri Pada, or Adam’s Peak, rises to more than 2,200 metres and is holy to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike, each tradition holding that the footprint-shaped mark at its summit belongs to a figure of their faith. During the pilgrimage season, from December to May, thousands climb its stepped path through the night by the light of a lantern-lit stairway.
It is a demanding climb of several hours and thousands of steps, rewarded at dawn by a sunrise over the clouds and the peak’s perfect triangular shadow on the land below. We start from Dalhousie with a guide, and arrange a comfortable stay and rest day around it.
