Overview
At almost 1,900 metres, Nuwara Eliya feels a world away from the tropical lowlands. The British built it as a cool retreat, and it still has red-brick post offices, a racecourse, an old golf course and mock-Tudor bungalows wrapped in flowers.
Around the town, emerald tea estates cover every slope. We arrange a guided walk through the plantations, a tour of a working tea factory and a tasting of fresh Ceylon tea, with high tea at a colonial hotel to finish. Bring a warm layer: evenings here are crisp.
